I have just spent three days washing, cleaning, anti-fouling and applying fresh non slip deck paint in order to get St. Kitts ready to go back in the water this weekend only to find that the Marina owner has got himself a sceptic leg and cannot drive his tractor/boat launcher.  Now I do not blame him in any way for collecting his injury, but his timing is all wrong especially with the good weather forcast over the weekend. Oh well I suppose a little more polishing will not hurt!!!!

You'd think he'd have some kind of backup assistance.

Maybe a wooden leg

Bummer

As you say, a bit more polishing won't hurt me. Wouldn't like to be you though....

I forgot to add to my last post, that having just owned St. Kitts for 12 months and this is her first preparation for a new season by me; I was than surprised to find that the raw water inlet pick up had half of its holes blocked with antifoul from previous owners. Since lying underneath the hull and applying antifoul I can understand that it is very easy to overlook and than overcoat the raw water pick up inlet. The use of a 4mm drill in a battery operated drill soon improved matters. Might be worth a look if you have one of these "pepper pot" type pick ups.

Well at last St. Kitts is back in the water. The engine started up first time; thanks to fitting electronic ignition last year, and all looked fine until a steady drip of water from the water pump was noticed. Luckily my man at the Marina had a full repair kit, which included two new seals and a new impeller shaft. Worthwhile fitting the new impeller shaft as the old one was scored where the old seals were located. So once installed all was fine and I can now look forward to cruising the Avon again.

Great to hear "St Kitts" is fighting fit once again.

Meanwhile here on the Thames a Birchwood 25 which has lain unloved for some years has finally sunk

Click on the Birchwood boat images line above and then choose Nirchwood pics from the menu. Her name was Waterbed III.

It seems the outdrive gaiter split...

"Carli" is a Birchwood 25 powered by the mighty Sea Panther diesel on shaft. She is based at Bray marina on the River Thames.

Well I am still waiting to go cruising on the Avon. The boat is fine, ready and waiting, but I am also waiting for the Bl---y rain to stop and the river to go down. It must be up at least 3 feet and flowing well. Normally a good friend, who has a Norman 32 and is moored at my Marina, and I go just for a short cruise in convoy after the boats have been out of the water for the winter. The thinking being that if any engine problems occurr then being towed back is easy. Especially since June 7th and 8th is the first festival at Evesham. Although mainly old cars, hot air balloons, music, BBQ and canned delight; plus a fair turnout of boats. So just for peace of mind the first cruise needs to go OK. So we have to pray that the weather improves although the forcast is not too hopefull.
