Hello,
We are new to the forum and have just bought a Birchwood 22 (told it is an Interceptor 22 ???? )It has not been used for some tome and is filthy and needs a small amount of work.
1)In the cockpit the drivers and passenger seats are on long brackets that fit into side of the boat at an angle but the drivers seat is so close to the wheel you cannot get your legs in so it is useless!! As anyone else come across this?Would this be the original seat? If so everyone must have stood to steer since the seventies! Could anyone advise a cheap and cheerfull alterative or has anyone had a seat with a similar fitting and what have they done.
2)Our boat (we have been told) is a 1978 , we have seen newer models with some very nice wooden rails around the cockpit , can these be bought or if we has some made would they be easy to fit without damaging the structure of the boat.
Hope someone can help!
Many thanks in advance,
Vicki & Gary (Lincolnshire)

Hi there and welcome to you both to our Forum. There may not be too much of a problem in moving both seats a little rearwards. Obviously it is no fun standing to steer for any length of time. Generally there are three types of seats. 1, fixed and cannot be moves easily, 2, a hinged seat and 3, a swivel seat fixed to the floor. This last one is the easiest to move since the swivelling seat support tube fits into a large circular fitting which can normally be moved.  Types 1 & 2 may need some more thought. It is certainly a help if the Captain's seat can be lowered or removed to provide more space in the cockpit when needed.
Regarding the wooden rails around the cockpit; it should not be too difficult to fabricate some to fit. Try talking to several people at your moorings, especially Birchwood owners, and see what thay have done. Best wishes.
