I have just joined the Norfolk Broads forum, as there appear to be quite a few Birchwood owners over there, who might like to reg. up and share stuff with us!

If anybody feels like a bit of hunting around for new members, feel free.....

There have been a few posts in the past on YBW from Birchwood owners suggesting an owners club, when I get a few mins I will search and perhaps PM anyoone who expressed an interest and point them in this direction.

Hi to all the members of the B. O. A. My name is Jesse and I live on the Norfolk Broads In Hoveton/ Wroxham.
I am also a member of the N.B.F. and my username is Wildfowler .
I am the proud owner of a 1979 25' Birchwood Excecutive with a nice clean smelling non smoking Ford Watermotor 1600 crossflow
Sea Tiger petrol engine with "J"type gearbox.I have owned the boat for 14 years and she originaly came from Windsor Racecourse Marina!!
I can only attribute the  Lazy "B"s attitude (the good old Norfolk boys) on the matter of NO REGRETS application to join the
N.F.B. to the fact that up here we are so layed back and the pace of life is so slow that nothing is rushed or hurried.
Anyway I will expect to get thousands of replys to my introductory  message
so with eager anticipation I await!!
TTFN
Jesse

Hi Paul, thank you for your reply the name of my birchwood is DELTA, not the best of names but I did not fancy changing it because it's supposed to be unlucky.
Boat folklaw also requires the wife to walk around the deck backwards and naked three times!!!! after changing the name, this is supposed to destroy any bad luck. When I asked Sandra (her indoors!!)if she would do this little thing for the sake of tradition --------her secound word was "OFF" followed by do it yourself!!!!  I will try and send a phot'o or two of delta soon  but I am not up with this ere computer
Technical know how!!!(help required)

If you pay the previous owner a copper coin for the name, that's also supposed to take away the bad luck.

We renamed ours from Nathan (the previous owners' grandson's name) to Nimue (the Lady of the Lake), sent them 1p for the change and, so far, we've had no bad luck.

Well, apart from the prop getting fouled.

Oh, and the gearbox leaking water.

Er, yes, and also the sliding roof blowing off and getting destroyed.

Ah, and, before that, the engine over-heated and destroyed the water pump impellor.

And the...

Hmmm...

Mind you look how much we have learnt from all our good luck as a result of the name change
a) that a boat is a hole in the water in which you throw money
b) that boat actually means 'Bung over another thousand'
c) that the universe works its wonders in such a way that five hours of maintenance is required for every hour's actual cruising

Hi people.
Just joined your forum. I've been a B25 owner for about a couple of years. Sophie Alice is the old girls name. I too was going to change it but have no wife to do the required walking, so left it as it was and now getting quite used to it.
The location is on the river Avon between Bath and Bristol, dragged her down kicking and screaming from the Broads. Now she is settled because in the marina we have 6 B25s, one only built 3 away from mine according to the plate. As one of the owners says they are the Cortina of the river!

Welcome Johncee!
I think you are the first member from the West of England. Please do spread the word about the site to the other 5 Birchwoods in the Marina.

Will you be posting a photo of Sophie Alice in the gallery?

Thanks for the welcome Ramage.

I'll spread the word as soon as I teach the others what a computer is!

The number of B25s could be up by one soon as one arrived over the weekend to go on sale. Always assuming that whoever has the good sence to purchase, keeps her in the marina.

I will have a try at uploading a Sophie Alice photo, unfortunatly the only ones I have of her are ones where she is flanked by other boats.
