Hi,

anyone know the timing/dwell angle for the Watermota Sea Tiger engine. Mine is as purchased and seems to be set at 16 degrees! Which might explain why when engine turns over on cranking it slows before completing the rotation before firing -suspect timing is way off!

The manual I have does not specify. Anyone help on this one?

Rebel III is a Birchwood 25 on Shakespeare's Avon.

Hi there, If you cannot find out for sure the information that you are looking for, then I would suggest that you set the points to a gap of 0.022"-0.025" and retard the ignition somewhat. To do this slightly rotate the distributor in the same direction as the rotor rotates. The old way of setting up ignition timing when no details are available and no strobe light is either,is to get the engine running and slowly rotate the distributor either way and note at which points the engine starts to slow down. Midway between theae points is a good place to leave it.

Hi,
thanks for the response. Found a car website suggesting the Ford 1600cc crossflow engine timing should be set up at 8 degrees. Have set up my engine to this and noted improved starting. seems to be a bout right based on your advice too.

You might find 4-5 degrees more apt for more modern fuels, as the original unit ran on 4* fuel, whilst unleaded is 2*.

Unlikely to matter at sub 2000rpm speeds on the river though!

'No Regrets' is now a beautiful Broom 30, berthed in Bray, on the River Thames. I used to own a Birchwood, honest!
