Previous owners of my boat have tried allsorts to get the weedtrap to seal properly so air isn't sucked in preventing water from circulating inside properly.
Vaseline has been used around the outer seal but last year even that was not working and the seal itself is still to this day in perfect condition. Probably due to the fact its been caked in vaseline for years!!

Anyway I traced the problem not to the outer seal, but to the bolt and wingnut. After the lid is put in place I fitted a rubber grommet on the bolt and put the wingnut over the top of the grommet.  Absolutely no problems ever since.
Some of you may have already tried this, but just in case anyone is having problems getting a good seal, give it a go.

If you go to http://www.nimue.co.uk/ and click on 'Notices', you'll see a diagram of our weedtrap.

Ours was leaking (hiss hiss) until we made sure that the central washer was both (a) fitted and (b) nice and squishy.

although as brianlj has purchased a new weed trap with a tight fitting screw in top we have done away with the wingnut etc - and its see through so we can stand and watch the water gurgling through it and through our new see through non collapsing pipes - could be more fun than cruising!

Hi all, we've only had our B25 a few weeks and I've been concerned at the lack of water in the 'weed trap' so was grateful for the info on brianl'sj post and 'Nimue' website and armed with a stiff piece of wire and a tube went to sort the problem.
To my total disbelief I found our stop cock has a 90* elbow fitted on top of it not only making it impossible to poke a piece of wire through to clear it but making it much more likely to get blocked.
So there I sat trying to think of something bendy enough to go down the pipe round the elbow and through the orifice in the stop cock and stiff enough to shift the crud on the way.
Then I had a 'Eureka' moment Compressed Air would, force the water in the inlet tube back down through the elbow and valve that should shift it.
So out came my Tesco air bed hand pump I disconnected the inlet pipe from the bottom of the weed trap(1-jubilee clip)connected it to the pump and started pumping a few moments of resistance and then with a sound like Moby Dick surfacing the bubbles came shooting up the side of the boat. A simple five minute fix that can be used any time.
