Hi
I've recently acquired my first boat, a 70's 22 and have 'Constance' moored at the Waveney River Centre on the Broads. I use the term 'moored' loosely, as she is probably in the boatshed at the moment undergoing repair. Unfortunately, she started to take on water in the engine room after only a few hours of use. Still, I never thought it would be easy (or cheap). See you afloat.

Always attend to prop logs/ outdrive gaiters as soon as you buy a boat, the rest of it can then be fettled without getting wet!

Welcome aboard!

Yes welcome - and sorry that you have had the early trouble, also check the hoses - we had quite a bit of  trouble with water in the bilges under the engine - a good deal of it from leaky hoses (water cooling system and the exhaust), and that is a relatively cheap and simple job to do

Hi Brian/No Regrets
Thanks for your condolences. The engineer at the marina thinks the gaitor has perished and is allowing water to leak inside. I looked over the boat at the weekend and it seems the correct diagnosis. Apparently several days work to replace.

If it's a shaft drive, it's only a couple of hours to actually fit it, but it's a lift-out job.

If she's on an outdrive, still only an hour or two, assuming the bolts are not stuck, but still a lift out...

£2-300 either way.

Hi
Yes, outdrive. Boat has been out of water for a couple of weeks now. Not heard from boatyard this week. Comforting words as I was expecting little change out of a grand.
Cheers

John
