Hi folks,

What a pleasure it was to find this forum.  And very nice to see so many intelligent boaters out there -- ie, those who choose Birchwoods!

I co-own a Birchwood 25 Executive with my bro-in-law.  Nimue is our first boat and this will be our third year with her.  He'll no doubt be along shortly to tell you a bit about himself, but meanwhile I'll just tell you that we're moored at Tiptree Marina up in Cambridgeshire on the River Great Ouse.  We moved there last year from the Cathedral Marina (the old Ely Marina as was) when we decided we wanted to be a bit closer to Cambridge.

I'm one of those sorts who always brings a bottle to a party, but this being an on-line 'party', how about I donate a gift?

And your beautiful logo has now been given pride of place atop the homepage!

That was most kind (mind telling us how you managed it?) smile/eek.gif

I used a photo of the logo from the side of Nimue and then drew over it using a drawing program called Xara Xtreme.[1]  I had to quickly invent the other letters in the forum logo whilst keeping the same general look.  Once I'd got the words and anchor, I then put a bevelled edge on the whole thing and coloured it to suit.

Mind you, I'm not sure that I've got the correct shade of red because the inlaid paint on our boat's logo is probably now quite faded.  I'll take advice on that!

Have a look at http://www.thejohnsons.co.uk/BirchwoodLogoCloseUp.jpg (66KB) if you want to see a close up.

1. Xara is an English company which produces the fastest graphics software -- ever!

I'm thinking of repainting mine, as they too are faded.

I'll have to choose the shade carefully though, or it'll look like a chavved up car

Hi

Welcome to the forum.  Its great to see the numbers growing and the logo looks great.

No boating for me to day as we have a BBQ at friends so unfortunately I have to drink copious amounts of booze :-)

Off to the boat tomorrow and probably cruise up towards Bray for a short run out

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm off out to the boat today to clean & paint our dinghy and generally potter about.

The forecast here in Cambridge is for rain at 7 o'clock, but if it's not actually pouring down, we'll probably chuck a few meaty things on the new BBQ.

We call it the 'Gas Monster'(tm). smile/hapface01.gif

this is the other Nimue Captain checking in, also called Brian since we don't have many names to go around down here in Cambridgeshire. A pleasure to find you the site and we hope to both contribute and learn from it

A few notes on our boat Nimue. Bought in October 2004 and the boat safety guy says its a 1980 model (although the hull stamp is for May '78 - did they do the hulls in batches and then fit out?). We bought her whilst she was moored on the upper Avon, before that she was up in the Lake District. And we met a previous owner who re-engined her with a Ford 1600 Diesel. My brother in law (the other Brian) came up with the name 'Nimue' (who was the Arthurian Lady of the Lake - pretentious lot in Cambridge aren't we?). Notable points are the solar panel, no less than four large batteries - and the sliding windows so you can cruise with your elbow hanging out the window - an absolute essential!
